Information:

Early diagnosis of Autism occurs at approximately 2 years of age. By 2 years, a child has gained skills and accomplished milestones in various areas for which deficits in these areas are often used as a basis for an Autism diagnosis. An overview of milestones accomplished by age 2 will be reviewed including attending skills and skills that are pre-requistes to learning standard ABA programming (such as imitation, receptive instructions, and matching). Examining milestones and skills will assist with development at programming to fill in lower level skills needed for children who are not readily learning basis programming (imitation, receptive instructions, matching, etc). Problem behavior is another challenge that many children with an Autism diagnosis often incur. Incorporating behavior reduction strategies into programming is necessary for these clients to receive a comprehensive treatment and improve quality of life. Evaluating the severity of problem behavior, determining function-based treatment strategies, and incorporating parent goals into the decision making process of treatment will result in a more widely accepted and consistently implemented treatment plan.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to identify skills and milestones developed by age 2, and how to incorporate these skills into programming.
Participants will be able to evaluate level of risk for a client to determine priority of goals for a treatment plan
Participants will be able to evaluate parent goals and identify strategies for incorporating parent goals into the treatment plan

Agenda:

9-10 Milestones review and early learning programming development
10-11:30 Problem Behavior reduction and goal setting
11:30-12 Evaluating Parent Goals and Gaining Parent Buy-In
