Child & Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS)

Initial Training

Dates:  May 2 & 3, 2017 (You must attend both days in order to receive your CAFAS certification)  

Times: 8:30am - 5:00pm BOTH DAYS

Location: The Guidance Center's CFE Building #2 at 13111 Allen Rd. Southgate, MI 48195

Cost: $0

Required Materials: CAFAS Paper Assessment Form, CAFAS Self-Training Manual, and Blank Scoring Forms for the CAFAS Self-Training Manual.

Participants should see their supervisor for the required materials. Participants that arrive without the required materials will not be permitted to attend the training.

Suggested Participants: QCMHP working in CMH billable programs in Wayne County with children ages 7-17 with a primary Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) diagnosis.


Information:

CAFAS is the gold standard for assessing a youth's day-to-day functioning across critical life subscales AND for determining whether a youth's functioning improves over time.

  • Backed by over 20 years of research A link to a pdf file is present.  supporting its validity and sensitivity to detecting change in behaviors.
  • Widely used to inform decisions about level of care, type and intensity of treatment, placement, and need for referral
  • CAFAS items (problem behaviors, strengths, and goals) are behaviorally descriptive and anchored, resulting in high credibility 
  • Quickly completed by practitioners (10 minutes), based on information from routine clinical evaluation
  • Designed for ages 5 to 19 (kindergarten and higher).

 

Please Note:  Testing on the second day ends at 5:00PM at the very latest. If participants need more time, they will have to follow the “remediation” process, as completing the vignettes in the time allotted is a condition of their reliable rater designation. 


Continuing Education Credits: Continuing Education Credits are offered for this training. Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for its entirety to receive credits.  No partial credit is available. You must have your license number with you to check in. 

  • Counselors: 11.0 Continuing Education credits are approved for this training. The VCE is National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
  • Social Workers: 11.0 Continuing Education credits are approved for this training.
  • Children's Mental Health Professionals: These training hours meet the MDHHS training requirement for CMHPs.
  • Training Hours: This training qualifies for 11.0 general training hours.

Registration/Walk-In Policy: Participants may try to attend the training as a walk-in, someone that did not pre-register. However, walk-ins will NOT be guaranteed seats or materials. Walk-ins will be asked to wait until the training begins to be seated to ensure there is enough room. Plan to pre-register to ensure your attendance.
