Professionals who work in Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, Juvenile Justice and Substance Abuse systems with children, adolescents and their families in Wayne County, including advocates, case managers, child mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and supports coordinators), direct care workers, family advocates, family members, licensed professional counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, parents and peer support specialists.
Professional staff within our Community Partners who interact with children, adolescents and their families, who are part of the Community Mental Health System, including Department of Human Services; Hospitals; Law Enforcement; School Personnel, including Detroit Public Schools; and other Social Service Organizations.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This training will address the differences between healthy grief and traumatic grief, ways in which traumatic grief can affect people, and how we take care of ourselves in the midst of our client’s trauma. Come to discuss ways in which our global/cultural trauma during the covid 19 pandemic may have given new rise to an understanding of traumatic grief and self-care when working with clients.  

OBJECTIVES

- Course will discuss traumatic grief/healthy grief
- Course will discuss trauma presentation in clients
- Course will discuss self-care when working with clients with traumatic grief
- Course will discuss ways in which our understanding of traumatic grief has shifted during the Covid-19 pandemic
