SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT (SE)

Supported Employment is an evidence based practice that is focused on maximizing client strengths and directing them toward maintaining recovery. Practitioners collaborate with vocational rehabilitation systems using a multidisciplinary team approach. Practitioners are active in supporting all areas of job searching and ongoing job performance. Services are individualized and continuous for a long period of time.

Findings indicate that supported employment interventions:

  • Increase competitive employment rate
  • Enhance employment retention
  • Increase consumer incomes
  • Decrease crises

Challenges for Providers:

  • Follow along supports are continuous
  • Subject to economic influences
  • Consumer choice can spread out resources

Upside for Providers:

  • Decreases lifestyle problems by instilling routine
  • Increases consumer resources
  • Provides for normalized recovery
