Training Description

The Co-Occurring Disorder and writing Strength-Based Treatment Plan Goals presentation will increase knowledge of the need for integrated treatment. Individuals will learn how to identify strength-based  goals and objectives, helping consumers identify their own strengths that can be easily documented in the treatment plan. 

Learning Objectives

The workshop has been designed with the below objectives in mind:

  1. Consumers will be able to develop a co-occurring substance use and mental illness disorder treatment plan.
  2. Identify strength-based goals and objectives to be documented in the treatment plan. 
  3. Learn how motivational interviewing  is utilized to evoke change for those with co-occuring disorders.

 

Suggested Participants:

Case managers, licensed social workers, and treatment professionals employed by Adult and/or SUD Service providers in Wayne County CMH


Trainer Biography:

Jamelia Hand MHS, CADC, MISAI is the owner and principal consultant of Vantage Clinical Consulting, Master's Level Certified  Addictions, Mental Health Counselor and Therapist. She is also a    Clinical Liaison II with Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals serving    the Greater Chicago land area. She is a professor, author, and treatment advocate of substance abuse topics. She has more than 14 years professional experience in the field of addictions and has been a therapist, practicing clinical educator, guest lecturer and has worked in every level of patient care from detoxification to discharge planning. She is very active in the addictions field and currently serves as an Advisory Board member for Governors State University's Addictions Studies Program, President of the Addiction Studies Alumni Club, Board member of the Illinois Certification Board and NAADAC. In her role as a CL she works  directly with the medical community specializing in the medication assisted treatment of opioid dependence combined with counseling. She prides herself in being knowledgeable about resources to support recovery and has enjoyed being able to translate that excitement to anyone who will listen, especially students who are interested in working in the field of addictions. In her free time she has dedicated herself to serving several Illinois Treatment Coalitions to fuel positive change in how addictions are treated in the U.S.. Her mantra is to support her health care professionals with her community matrix model. This model implements training, education and resources to ensure that each patient has the best possible chance to recover. She has a strong commitment to recovery and has acquired a well-respected relationship within the addictions/mental health community. She truly understands and genuinely supports the "Patient's Perspective" and has leveraged her large network of key decision makers in the addictions/mental health field to fuel change in the treatment experience.

  • Social Workers:  1.5 continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. 
  • Counselors: 1.5 continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. The VCE is a National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional: 1.5 training hours are approved for clinical trainings in the behavioral health field (QMHP)
