Children's Mental Health Grand Rounds will be available at FIVE (5) locations via video-conference!  Attendees will be able to participate, save time and gas money and still receive continuing education credits.  See details and registration instructions below; please read carefully.

DATE: Thursday, January 19, 2012
TIME:  10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, to ensure parking arrive by 9:00 AM

LOCATION: This training will be available through video-conference at five (5) locations.  The speaker will be at the LIVE Site: Dearborn Ford & Performing Arts Center; 15801 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48126.  The Broadcast Sites are: The Children's Center, 79 W. Alexandrine, Detroit, 48201; Lincoln Behavioral Services, 9315 Telegraph Rd., Redford, 48239; Northeast Guidance Center's Wellness Academy, 2900 Conner Ave., ,Bldg A., Detroit, 48215 and The Guidance Center's Center For Excellence, 13111 Allen Rd., Southgate, 48195.

SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS: Professionals who work in Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse systems with children, adolescents and their families in Wayne County, including advocates, case managers, child mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and supports coordinators), direct care workers, family advocates, family members, licensed professional counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, parents and peer support specialists.

Professional staff within our Community Partners who interact with children, adolescents and their families, who are part of the Community Mental Health System, including Department of Human Services; Hospitals; Law Enforcement; School Personnel, including Detroit Public Schools; and other Social Service Organizations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to:
1. Three self-empowerment techniques to help your client cope int he addictive environment: body language that conveys self-esteem and confidence; words to use that reduce conflict; specific methods whereby the child/teen can reach out to others to advocate for them in times of severe physical endangerment.

2. Motivational techniques to engage the addict/alcoholic him or herself to attend family counseling and how to facilitate a session of warmth, honesty and commitment to change in that session.

3. How to stay focused, as a helper, on empowering the client without lapsing into the role of parent, judge, enabler, PS worker, etc.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS:
Continuing education credits are offered for this training.  Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety including the question and answer portion.  Late arrivals and early departures will result in the deduction of awarded credits.  All participants MUST return to the check-in desk to sign-out and/pick-up your certificate of attendance or else you will forfeit your proof of attendance and training hours/credits!

 

-SOCIAL WORKERS:  2.0 continuing education credits are approved for this training. 
 
-LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS: 2.0 continuing education credits are approved for this training.  The Virtual Center of Excellence is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements.  The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.

-SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROFESSIONALS: 2.0 CAC-Rs are approved for this training

-MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS:  "The Wayne State University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  The Wayne State University School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity."
 
REGISTRATION:   Registration is currently closed for this training.  Pre-registration for the Feb. 16, 2012 CMHGR is now open.   Walk-ins are accepted, however, seating and training materials is not guaranteed.
