Children's Mental Health Grand Rounds (CMHGR): Child's Reaction and Perspective with the Death of a Parent (Developing a Trauma-Informed System[2])

Children's Mental Health Grand Rounds will be available at FIVE (5) locations via video-conference!  Attendees will be able to participate, save time and gas money and still receive continuing education credits.  See details and registration instructions below; please read carefully.

DATE: Thursday, February 18, 2010
TIME: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, to ensure parking arrive by 9:00 AM

LOCATION: This training will be available through video-conference at five (5) locations.  To attend at The Guidance Center's Center for Excellence, 13111 Allen Rd., Southgate, MI 48195, click on the register button at the bottom of this page.  The other four (4) sites are: The Dearborn Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, The Children's Center; Lincoln Behavioral Services; and Northeast Guidance Center's Wellness Academy.  To register and attend this training at one of the alternate four sites listed above, return to the VCE calendar and see additional locations listed. 

SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS: Professionals who work in Community Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse systems with children, adolescents and their families in Wayne County, including advocates, case managers, child mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and supports coordinators), direct care workers, family advocates, family members, licensed professional counselors, nurses, occupational therapists, parents and peer support specialists.

Professional staff within our Community Partners who interact with children, adolescents and their families, who are part of the Community Mental Health System, including Department of Human Services; Hospitals; Law Enforcement; School Personnel, including Detroit Public Schools; and other Social Service Organizations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to:
1. Explain the impact of loss on a child's emotional, behavioral, and relational status.
2. Identify verbal and non-verbal cues that communicate the needs of a child who encounters loss.
3. Strategize effective age-appropriate interventions that will add to the child's coping skills.
4. Assess, encourage, and provide culturally-sensitive suggestions to maintain a support system that provides a safe
    environment.

-SOCIAL WORKERS: 2.0 continuing education credits are approved for this training.

-NURSES: 2.0 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credits are approved for this training.
This training has been approved for 2.0 credits for nurses (CNE's).  Hospice of Michigan's Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association Continuing Education Approval Committee, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
