Information:

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule - Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured, standardized assessment of social-communication, play and imaginative use of materials, and restricted and repetitive behaviors for individuals who have been referred because of possible autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The ADOS-2 contains 5 assessment modules. Each module offers standard activities designed to elicit behaviors that are directly relevant to the diagnosis of ASD at different developmental levels and chronological ages from 12 months to adult. It is essential that examiners using the ADOS-2 have a full understanding of the guidelines for selecting the appropriate module and the guidelines for administration of the activities in all 5 modules. Donuts and Discussion Group #2 will focus on supporting examiners who use the ADOS-2 gain a better understanding of the specific behaviors that are scored in each module, the principles underlying each code, and the coding conventions.

Learning Objectives:

• To develop effective note-taking strategies.
• To better understand specific behaviors scored in each module.
• To better understand the principles underlying each code and the coding conventions.
• To understand specific coding guidelines: summary items vs. specific observation items, majority of examples vs. the best example, "double-coding", differentiating social overtures and responses, behaviors directed to the examiner vs. the caregiver, and joint attention.
