Course Description:

This lecture introduces the concept of "personal systems of care" as a holistic, sustainable approach to wellness and burnout prevention. Designed for mental health professionals, the course explores how structured daily and weekly routines in the areas of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual care, can improve client outcomes and clinician well-being. Through lecture, guided exercises, and client-facing tools, participants will create their own care systems and learn how to support clients in building their own. This model reframes self-care from a one-time act to a consistent system that enhances emotional regulation, executive functioning, and life satisfaction.

Course Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

1. Define “personal systems of care” and explain how they differ from traditional self-care models.
2. Identify the connection between routine, structure, and nervous system regulation.
3. Design a personalized care system that addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
4. Apply strategies to teach this model to clients across various age groups and needs.
5. Anticipate and address common barriers to care system consistency (e.g., time, motivation, dysregulation).
