Autism Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation & Differential Diagnosis Training

Credits: 6.5 currently pending for social work (CEC) & National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)

Suggested Participants: Providers of Diagnostic Evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorders for the Medicaid Population including: Psychologists (TLLP, LLP, LP),Master’s Level Social Workers (MSW, LLMSW, LMSW), a physicians, registered nurses, or physician assistants


Presenter: Kara Brooklier, PhD, LP

Dr. Brooklier has been a practicing pediatric neuropsychologist for over 10 years.  Her specialization is in the area of neurodevelopmental disorders and specifically autism spectrum disorders.  She is Senior Director of Developmental Disabilities at the Children’s Center of Wayne County and is clinical training faculty at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Wayne State University Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences.  Dr. Brooklier works with her team of staff psychologists, doctoral interns, and postdoctoral fellows to conduct neuropsychological and differential diagnostic evaluations of autism spectrum disorders and associated neurodevelopmental conditions.  She also serves as an ASD content expert for the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services and is on the advisory board of the Autism Alliance of Michigan and the Early Childhood Group of the Michigan Autism Council.


Information:

This course will address best practice, comprehensive autism assessment, including comorbid and differential diagnosis.  The integration of history by interview, observation, and test data will be explored. Coding of the DD-CGAS for global functioning will also be addressed. Determination of medical necessity for Applied Behavioral Analysis will be reviewed.  Finally, writing helpful recommendations and giving good feedback to families will also be discussed.


Course Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to state the best practice parameters for ASD evaluation, including assessment of common the comorbid and differential conditions.

2. Participants will demonstrate reliable coding on the DD-CGAS during in-session practice and will be able to state factors to consider in the determination of medical necessity for ABA.

3. Participants will be knowledgeable of factors associated with helpful treatment plans and feedback sessions with families.

12:00-1:00pm Lunch on own

Walk-In Policy: Participants are welcome to attend the training as a walk-in (someone that did not pre-register), however, walk-ins will NOT be guaranteed seats or materials. Walk-ins will be asked to wait until the training begins in order to receive training materials and be seated to assure that there is enough room. Plan to pre-register to ensure your attendance.

If you work OUTSIDE of Wayne County there is a nominal $15.00 registration fee to attend this training. Receipts will be available upon request.
