Prescription painkillers are opiate-based like fentanyl and heroin, and when abused, can be just as addictive and lethal. This often leads those who abuse them to stronger and cheaper alternatives. It is also likely you, a family member or friend at some time will be prescribed a narcotic pain reliever by a physician or dentist. Unfortunately, many think getting addicted to these medications, if abused, could not happen to them. Prescription drug abuse has risen to become one of the most pressing problems in our communities and nation. There’s no common face to it, it impacts everyone.
We invite you, your colleagues and other stakeholders to attend “Changing Opioid Prescription Practices and the Stigma of Addiction.”

The session is free, a hot breakfast and parking are provided (bring ticket to UM Detroit Center receptionist for validation). Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis; we have capacity for 60.

The panel includes Judge Linda Davis, JD, MS, Director, Families Against Narcotics (FAN); Sunil Agarwal, MD, MS, Research Fellow, Michigan Opioid Prescribing Network (OPEN); and Monica Gonzalez Walker, MSA, RN, NE-BC, Clinical Implementation Manager, Michigan Opioid Prescribing Network (OPEN).
