“Children's Mental Health Lecture Series: Autism- Early Signs, Effective Treatment, and Hopeful Outcomes
Detroit Wayne Connect Presents
Children's Mental Health Lecture Series: Autism- Early Signs, Effective Treatment, and Hopeful Outcomes
Location: Virtual via BlueJeans
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
With 1 out of every 54 children being diagnosed with Autism, it’s reach is wide. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex condition dramatically different than other types of developmental delay, communication and learning disorders or behavior problems. While the rates of diagnoses are staggering, the good news however is that effective early intervention can mitigate the challenge and at times lead to a loss of diagnosis. Detecting the signs early is of the upmost priority for the caregivers, and professionals that support the family. According to the CDC, despite guidelines for screening at 18 and 24 months, average age of identification is 3 years 4 months and another 10-month delay till diagnosis. Given the demonstrated power of “early intensive behavioral intervention” (EIBI), this preventable treatment opportunity loss leaves children (and families) at risk.
