Abstract:

Over the course of the COVID-19 Pandemic families, friends, and loved ones are being forced to have sometimes painful conversations that they otherwise would not be having. While these conversations may appear painful, they are absolutely necessary for growth and healing. With no obvious end in sight, many are left scrambling for the tools to deal with day to day matters. This course will discuss ways to address the mental maladies that are highlighted due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

The discussion will help providers feel more at ease when addressing issues their consumers face as well as issues that they may be facing in their own personal relationships. We will also engage in discussions about how to foster and nurture protective factors to decrease potential negative outcomes such as anxiety, depression and panic attacks.  

 

Course Objectives:

The following are overall Objectives for those who complete this course are listed below:

  • Participants (i.e. providers) can anticipate that this content will assist with the mitigation of overwhelming stressors in the following areas identified as pressure points: professional, relational, familial, physical, and spiritual. 
  • Participants (i.e. providers) will receive tools to assist them with the development of strategies to enhance their ability to process their own ongoing emotional, mental and psychological trauma brought on by this COVID-19 pandemic while working with their clientele. 
  • Participants (i.e. providers) will understand techniques that will enable them to deal with this COVID-19 Crisis more effectively with themselves, their loved ones and their clientele by mastering the following contextual concepts and skill sets: 

1 - Learn how to reduce anxiety and fear in the midst of a crisis (such as COVI-19) and identify and use calming techniques to resolve elevated levels of anxiety and fear within your clientele 

2- Learn how to identify signs of grief and loss while learning to manage a plethora of related emotions which will enable the provider to assist their clientele with their emotional responses to crisis related grief and loss 

3- Learn how to reset your mindset in order to adapt to this new normalcy as a result of the present crisis then develop the skills to share with loved ones and clientele.

  • Develop an appreciation for the growth process; moving from your comfort zone, to fear zone,  to learning zone, to growth zone in the midst of a crisis  

             4- Learn to Level-up your communication with co-workers, clientele, family and friends in the midst of extreme stressors                due to the COVID-19 pandemic  by deepening your listening and effective communication skills
