Description:
This training module was developed by and for Michigan direct support professionals interested in learning more about how to work assertively with professional colleagues. In this session, we will discuss general information about assertiveness. You will have the opportunity to think about what you can do to increase your knowledge and skills about assertiveness with professionals.

Course Objectives:

  • Assess our current level of assertiveness
  • Identify characteristics of aggressive, passive, and assertive behavior
  • Understand the concept of personal assertive rights
  • Identify the 5 P’s of successful change
  • Practice how to construct and use person anchors
  • Assess our problem areas of assertiveness
  • Develop a plan to overcome problem areas

Timed Agenda:
• Welcome & Introduction 5 minutes
• Possibilities Video 5 minute
• How Assertive Are You & Personal Rights 30 minutes
• The 5 P’s & Emotional Anchors 30 minutes
• Self-Awareness 50 minutes

Continuing Education Credits: 2.0 Continuing Education Credits are offered for this training. Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety.  You must have your license number when you check in.
 
Social Workers:  2.0 Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. 
 
Qualifies Mental Health Professionals (QMHP): These training hours meet the MDCH training requirement for QMHP staff.

Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP): These training hours meet the Michigan Department of Human Services requirement for QIDP staff.
