Description
What is Medication for in Adolescents and Children: This training is for juvenile justice workers and clinicians to help understand important factors of mental health diagnosis and psychotropic medication use. Thoughtful methods to address resistance, enhance understanding of diagnosis and symptoms, the parent and youth concerns regarding psychotropic medications and cultural perspectives regarding mental health and medication will be discussed. Attendees will learn how to better engage, observe symptoms, explain treatment and medication use for particular adolescent diagnosis and to educate themselves and those they serve better in our System of Care will be provided
Psychotropic Medications for Children and Adolescents: An introduction to psychopharmacologic treatments used with children and adolescents. Discussion will include commonly used agents, expected benefits, and potential risks/side effects. Appropriate methods for monitoring and reviewing medications will also be discussed.

Psychotropic Medications for Children and Adolescents:
- Participants will be able to identify psychotropic medications commonly used in the treatment of children and adolescents with psychiatric symptoms.
- Participants will be able to identify and list the common side effects and risks associated with psychotropic medications.
- Participants will be aware of methods for the monitoring and reviewing of medications for their expected benefits as well as for side effects in order to aide in the best use of medications as part of a treatment team.
