Training Description

Staff will learn about the potential indicators and red flags associated with Human Trafficking, which include common work and living conditions, poor mental health and abnormal behaviors, poor physical health, powerless behaviors, branding, and how to identify and assist victims of human trafficking. In this session, professional staff will learn how to identify and respond to an American trafficked youth in a clinical setting. This training will offer comprehensive understandings of domestic minor sex trafficking including the law, victim profile and vulnerabilities, pimp control and manipulation, and effective responses.  Included in the presentation will be a video introducing sex trafficking, addressing the vulnerabilities of targeted youth, recruitment, control tactics, characteristics and challenges to rehabilitation.  Intake tools and concepts will be discussed as well as resources provided.

Learning Objectives:

-Identify potential red flags in a potential situation of a victim of human trafficking
-Learn how individuals become victims of trafficking
-Familiarize clinical staff about human trafficking
-Familiarize clinical staff with the appropriate treatment of human trafficking victims
-Identify the clinicians' role in facilitating services, treatment and escape for victims
-Assess actual stories and provide treatment modalities for victims

About the Speakers: Lennie M. Alcorn, MS, LLP is a Nationally Certified Sex Offender Treatment Specialist (CSOTS) and a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) in the State of Michigan, certified in providing assessments and counseling to sex offenders by the National Association of Forensic Counselors. She possess two Master Degrees, Addiction Counseling and Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University, AZ. Ms. Alcorn has thousands of hours in clinical supervision and various trainings over her 22 years of working in the field of Human Services. She is BISCMI certified, specializing in the treatment of Domestic violence perpetrators and victims. She also has experience in assessing and treating victims of trauma and substance abuse. Ms. Alcorn has experience in public speaking internationally, nationally and locally regarding Human Trafficking and treatment of victims. Her services encompass both adults and juveniles, group, couples, families and individual services. It is her Ms. Alcorn’s goal to utilize her education and long-term experience to achieve outcomes ultimately to focus on the success of the Michigan Human Trafficking Initiative.


Continuing Education Credits: 3.0 Continuing Education Credits are offered for this training.  Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety. 

  • Social Workers:  3.0 Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. 
  • Counselors: 3.0 Continuing Education Credits are approved for this training. The VCE is a National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
  • Substance Abuse Professionals: 3.0 Non-Specific Continuing Education Credits are approved by MCBAP for substance use professionals, such as Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADC).
  • Children's Mental Health Professionals (CMHP): These training hours meet the MDCH training requirement for CMHP staff.
  • QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (QMHP): These training hours meet the MDCH training requirement for QMHP staff.
  • -TRAINING HOURSThis training will count toward the annual training hours required by most provider agencies.
