Abstract: 

This presentation uses advanced Motivational Interviewing skills in order to identify ambivalence and evoke intrapersonal motivation for change. Participants will use the skills to respond to the change talk and help move the consumer to create a plan for change.  MI skills will be reviewed as participants learn how to integrate said skills into their daily practice.  The Transtheoretical Model of Change will be reviewed and applied to the change planning process.
 
Course Objectives: 
Review the Spirit and Principles of MI
Demonstrate proficiency using the the 4 microskills (OARS) of MI
Identify Change Talk 
Respond to and Sustain Change Talk
Review Stages of Change
Develop a Stage-Appropriate Change Plan
 
 
Timed Agenda
9-12- lecture, small group activity, role play
12-1- lunch (on your own)
1-4- lecture, small group activity, role play, case examples
 

Suggested Participants: MCPN Adult Providers, Case Managers, Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Addictions Counselors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Administrator, and Clinical Directors serving adults.

Please note: Employees of private practices are eligible to attend for a fee.

-SOCIAL WORKERS:  5.5 continuing education credits are approved for this training. 

 -LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS: 5.5 continuing education credits are approved for this event.  The DWMHA's Virtual Center of Excellence is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements.  The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program. 

 -QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (QMHP): These event hours meet the MDCH training requirement for QMHP staff. 

-TRAINING HOURSThis event will count toward the annual training hours required by most provider agencies.
