Research Day Conference 2012

Topic: Autism, Developmental Disabilities, and Co-Occurring DD/MI Disorders
Date: January 26, 2012
Location: Great Grace Temple (Detroit, MI)

The 2nd Annual Community Mental Health Research Day on "Autism, Developmental Disabilities, and Co-Occurring DD/MI Disorders" took place on January 26, 2012, at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan. The previous year's success, coupled with great interest in the topic, led to a much larger number of participants, more than double the previous number, putting attendance at over 300. Our keynote speaker, John Constantino, MD, Director of the William Greenleaf Elliot Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, discussed research he was conducting on autism in Wayne County and nationally. A panel presentation on evidence-based practices in autism featured speakers from programs at Children's Hospital of Michigan's Autism Center and the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities of the Henry Ford Health System. Following lunch, attendees had the opportunity to talk with more than 30 researchers displaying posters describing their research. The day concluded with Round Table Discussions, designed to build new partnerships and share resources among attendees with common interests.

2012 Abstract Compilations

The results of more than two-dozen research or evaluation projects conducted in Wayne County were featured in the poster session of the 2nd Annual Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network Research Day Conference on January 26, 2012. These poster presentations covered a wide range of topics focused on the conference theme "Autism, Developmental Disabilities and DD/MI Co-occurring Disorders." More than 300 conference participants interacted with the authors of these posters, satisfying their curiosity and motivating them to conduct studies of their own. This compendium presents Abstracts that summarize twenty of these local studies on services for persons with developmental disabilities, along with attribution for the people involved in the studies and their organizational affiliations.
